We are moving!

Well, OK, not really moving moving, but we are combining both our produce/farming news/blog with our beekeeping. Its taking too much time to run two parts of our farm and our website should also reflect the main idea of change we are committed to in terms of diversity and sustainability.

Plus, on a economic level all our customers retail or wholesale are interested in everything we do, not just beekeeping and not just organic produce and grains.

We hope joining them all together will work well. We’ve already started with a post on our colonies’ winter survival/loss.

Our Honey Wins A Blue Ribbon!

We are a bit late in reporting this. In September Carriage House Farm won a blue ribbon at Harvest Home this year. We entered four varieties of our local honey as a single entry: Black Locust, Chunk Honey, Wildflower, and our end of the season Autumn Honey. As a group they won a Blue Ribbon for best Honey.

Wedding Honey

Our first wedding engagement where the bride and groom selected Carriage gHouse Farm honey as the gift to their guests.

It was a selection of a small amount of Black Locust and Orange Blossom Honey and the rest was almost an equal amount of our mid-year Wildflower and Autumn honeys.

The bride and groom supplied their own labels and I think they looked quite nice on the tables.

Its been a while since I posted anything regarding bees. I’ve been really busy with other aspects of our farm. Our produce production, even though its November is still ongoing and we are now almost finished with our corn harvest. Soon I hope to post a nice selection of photos of bees from this year as well as updates on things like our propolis production and thoughts on working with raw pollen.

Farmers’ Fair, September 26 and 27, 2009

Carriage House Farm will be joining the ranks of local producers at the Covington, KY Farmer’s Fair on September 27. We will be selling honey and displaying a pull-apart beehive (sans bees) and beekeeping tools as well as answering questions about beekeeping. We will be providing samples of both our honey as well as different varieties available in other locations around the United States and the world. At 2:45 PM I will be doing a 15 minute presentation on beekeeping in the Tri-State area and providing contact information for all the local organizations and websites.

We will also be supplying information about our plans for 2010 both in beekeeping and food production for restaurants.

Comb Honey + Chalk

We are, for a limited time, selling comb honey on the frame to Chalk Food + Wine. The comb you are served is being cut directly from a frame of honey that was in a colony of bees just a week before. This honey is a bit darker than what we are selling bottled at this time. It may contain quite a large amount of thistle, which would give it dark characteristics this time of year.
